Perry and Bryan did a wonderful job on this volume. This is a must-have for anyone running AdWords campaigns. The book opens your eyes to many important things.

The only criticism that I have is about the continuous references to the Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool which has been inaccessible for almost a year now. It seems that it is already time for the authors to edit the "Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords" to rely more on Wordtracker or a similar tool.

Overall, excellent job on the book, gentlemen. Quick and extremely informative read. Took me a transatlantic flight to read, and boy, did I find a number of hidden gems in it!

I am still giving it a 5-star rating (regardless of that Overture comment).

This book too general. Talks a lot about tips for running your business in general. That’s not what I need. I was looking for Google tips exclusively.
If you read the wording of all those 5-star reviews, they are a joke. Not written by actual buyers, most likely the author’s friends.

I reviewed Howie Jacobson’s book about adwords, but I remain a staunch Perry Marshall fan. I have this book and Perry’s ebook on this subject and I frequently listen to his many mp3 files I’ve accumulated over the years. I even purchased a new ipod so I could access Perry’s wisdom when I’m on the run. It would be hard to choose between Marshall and Jacobson, but if you can only afford one I recommend Perry Marshall. Follow their recommendatiuons and you’ll make enough money to afford both.

the product for the most part gets the job done but has major flaws. It looks durable, however; the plastic screen protector is difficult to apply. My nano screen has large air bubbles. They could have easily included a preattached screen protector but instead chose a do-it-yourself attachment.

What Happens When Association Goes Wrong

August 28th, 2008 Posted in Hack & Security | No Comments »

Here we are discussing a very strange yet important use of registry cleaner. Every file is saved with its file extension. This extension will follow a period such as .doc, which means that it is a MS word document. Or an .xls extension that means it is meant to open in Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Windows uses these extensions to associate programs with the file and automatically launches the program when the file is selected for viewing. Here is where the technicality of association can go wrong. There are two scenarios. One when the program is not loaded to run the file and the other when the extension or association is wrong. All this information is entered in the registry of the system and if the extension or association is wrong or the program does not exist the data or file is redundant and will not load. This will remain in the registry, as it is not automatically deleted. What you need is a registry cleaner to do the job for you.

Registry cleaners are available all over the Internet. A search in any search engine with the appropriate keywords such as windows registry cleaner or free registry cleaner will bring you to a, usually free, download. This is software that takes a few seconds, maybe a couple of minutes to download on your system. It is easier to run. There are two stages to running the program. One stage, the first, is to scan your registry for redundant entries such as bad associations or extensions. This process may take two or three minutes. Then the second stage is to clean the registry with the free registry cleaner software. This takes a split second. Because the registry cleaner has already scanned the system and selected the files that need to be deleted from the system.

There are number of free registry cleaners that can be downloaded for free. Some of the popular ones are free windows xp registry cleaner, registry tweaknow cleaner and abexo registry cleaner. All these registry cleaners can remove redundant associations such as files that are inoperable because the associated programs are not loaded. If such a file exists, the system will spend a lot of time looking for the associated program in the background and slow the system down. In the end the association program will display that the file cannot be opened because the associated program could not be found.

It is always advisable to run registry cleaner software on your system to maintain the efficiency of the system and have a tension free PC.

Google Advertising Tools: Cashing In With AdSense AdWords And The Google APIs

August 28th, 2008 Posted in Travel | No Comments »

Click for more detail

Price : $6.00

Product Description

When it comes to advertising on the web, you just can’t argue with the numbers. A $7 billion market today is expected to grow to $18.9 billion by 2010. Jupiter Research also estimates that search advertising will be a larger share of the market than display advertising by 2010. These phenomenal numbers are due largely to Google, which has changed the way the world publishes content - and advertises.

Google Advertising Tools from O’Reilly examines the business and technology behind making money with content and advertising on the web. This focused, easy-to-read guide shows you how to use Google’s advertising services to make it happen. You’ll find all the background information you need to work with Google AdSense, which automatically delivers text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site, and Google AdWords, which lets you generate text ads that accompany specific search term results.

This book has specific and detailed sections on:

Turning your web site into a profit center with AdSense

Making sense of AdSense metrics

Driving traffic to your site

Optimizing sites for search engine placement

Working with AdWords campaigns, auctions, and reports

Managing campaigns dynamically using the AdWords APIs

Once you’ve read all four parts, you’ll have a comprehensive picture of how advertising works on the web and how you can use the Google advertising programs to your advantage.

I was already doing my own Google advertising when I got this book thinking that I will learn a quite a bit of new things from this book. Not so. If you took the time to read Google’s own information and FAQ, you would have understood 90% or more of the stuff. I found the screen shots in the book particularly annoying, the prints are so small and are printed in very light colored ink that they are unreadable. You can’t read this book without being in front of your computer to follow along each screen to make sense.

Like most of the O’Reilly books, this is very well written and a really good resource for tips and hints. It is not as good for a beginner, but is good for people that need a good resource to go to the next level.

Review date : 2007-07-15
It is estimated that Google ads reach 80% of all Internet users. No other advertising system or promotional scheme (including spam campaigns) can boast such coverage. Cashing in on Google ads either as an advertiser through AdWords or by getting paid by the click for hosting Google ads through Adsense is a pretty quick and simple process.

Google Advertising Tools is meant for the beginner advertiser or new website owner who would like to make a little extra money through hosting Google ads. This book takes the reader through the whats, the whys, the hows, and the wheres of these options. Much of the more complicated parts of these processes are even detailed step by step complete with illustrations of what the reader will see at the website. I do suggest this book to those new to Google ads. However, I also think that those already participating in these programs with find a few helpful hints and tips, particularly in the optimizing sections.

This book was OK, I mean it has some good information but you can find most of it online so it is more of a resource book instead of a book having especially valuable information.

Im glad I bought it cause I now have a resource book on the shelf and dont have to search online and I often have limited time.

If you have the time to research online then do that, otherwise by this book.

if you are interested on how search engines work this a book you can start

At over 200 pages you’ll be surprised how little is really in this book. I’m fairly new to the adsense topic yet found nothing new; It felt like a rehash of other people’s writings and posts. Lots of stream of conscious writing and general lack of organization. There were quite a few typos, several repeated sections, and the book seemed printed in a "one-off" style (print as purchased). Although it did cover the standard fare, unless this is the only access you have to adsense information, save your time and save your money. I might give it 2 stars but there needs to be some truthful balance to the previous 5-star ratings.

No matter what your level of experience is with AdSense, this book is sure to meet your expectations. Looking to generate more cash, maximize more clicks, or learn more tips & tricks? Time is money, and with "AdSense Unleashed" you will not be wasting either!

Another great piece to the puzzle in the Google ad sense world. For those of you who have ever used Google adsense, you’ve probably been frustrated and annoyed and possibly confused about inner workings of their world. One of the few pieces of information that actually cuts through and tells you exactly what to do, this is a great book to teach you how to make money using Google adsense. While many pieces of advice give you more questions and never answer the original one this book gives you the real deal.

MagnetoOptical Technology: The UnSub Storage System (Part 1)

August 28th, 2008 Posted in Hack & Security | No Comments »

Magneto-Optical storage systems have been around for quite some time but have not penetrated the consumer market like the average 3.5 hard drive has. Medical institutions, US military facilities, and many businesses use the MO technology to reliably backup important documents as additional and preventative measures for retaining confidential information. However, the average consumer has historically not purchased MO technology to benefit their own storage system.

In this article, we’re going to take a look at MO technology, and how its reliability is actually just as good as…and better, than the average 3.5 hard drive.

Magneto-Optical Technology

Basically put, a laser beam (tuned at around 680nm and 0.7 microns in diameter) is projected onto the media disk (made mostly of polycarbonate), where the beam heats a particular layer on the disk to Curie Point (the temperature at which a magnetic substance loses its coercive force, which is 200 C), thereby enabling the magnet within the drive itself to easily contour the polarization of the disk. Once this is done, the drive can quickly switch the polarization of the magnet, creating a data mark on the disk. When reading a disc, the laser beam is polarized and the reflected light is interpreted into data.

MO Technology is kind of like a cooking recipe. For example, to make different shapes of candy, you have to heat the sugar to a point where you can move the candy base around and shape it with your hands or molds, before it gets cold. This is what the laser inside MO drives are doing. They are heating up an area on the disk so that when a magnet is brought within a specific distance, the magnet can change the properties of the disk. Then, when the disk is not in use, the disk is hard, and is able to be read over and over without fear of data contamination due to the way it was recorded.

Reliability Of MO Technology

Each MO disk is certified to be read over 1,000,000 times. Now, chances are, you will be moving your data off an MO disk before you reach the one-million mark. And even if you do not, chances are again you probably won’t have even reached the half-way point.

In addition to the high repetitive rating of the MO disks, the disks also have high tolerances to temperature. The Curie Point of MO disks is 200 degrees centigrade, which means anything below that temperature will not affect the data on the disk. Try to operate a typical hard drive in temperatures like these. We’re talking 392 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why Is MO Technology Mostly Unknown To The Consumer?

For a technology which is superior and more reliable than the current hard drive in your computer, this is certainly an interesting question. However, we find the answer in terms of marketing sensationalism over the years. MO Technology is not as dynamic as regular magnetic drives, and currently do not have the ever-increasing capacities as a typical 3.5-inch magnetic drive over a short time span. 500 Gigabyte drives are now found online and in your favorite computer store. But try to find a Fujitsu MO drive and you’ll receive several scratchings of the head from sales associates when you mention the technology and the model numbers.

Why?

It’s simple marketing and what sells. Larger numbers sell. Why buy a drive for $280 and a 5-pack of 5-2.3GB MO disks for another $100, when you can buy a 300GB hard drive for around $250? It’s that kind of thinking which can get you into trouble. Many of us need to understand that smaller capacities can actually be better for us, and actually cost us less money in the long run.

In the next part of the article, we’ll take a further look into MO Technology.
